Export growth reaches 45%, Chinese lift tables encounter European and American certification barriers
The latest statistics from the General Administration of Customs show that China's exports of height-adjustable tables increased by 45.2% year-on-year from January to August 2025, with Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States contributing over 70% of this growth. However, the implementation of new EU CE certification regulations is posing a new challenge for the industry's overseas expansion. At the Shanghai International Furniture Fair's foreign trade negotiation area, overcoming certification barriers was a hot topic among companies.
The export market exhibits distinct regional characteristics. Mature European and American markets remain the main players. While international brands like Steelcase hold a 60% share of the high-end market, local companies are rapidly penetrating the market thanks to their cost-effectiveness. Lechuang has introduced its smart height-adjustable tables to the European and American home market through cross-border e-commerce channels, with a unit price of 3,200 yuan. AILINK secured orders from French and German customers at the exhibition, earning recognition for its minimalist design and high-quality craftsmanship.
Emerging markets in Southeast Asia are performing strongly. With the rise of remote work in these markets, purchases from countries like Vietnam and Malaysia have increased by 120% year-on-year. Export companies in Guangzhou and Shenzhen have specifically launched foldable models suitable for smaller apartments, with an average unit price 40% lower than those in Europe and the United States. "Emerging markets are price-sensitive, but have clear demands for basic functionality," said Manager Li, head of a Shenzhen-based foreign trade company.
Certification barriers are exacerbating export disparity. The EU's new CE certification strengthens electromagnetic compatibility and material environmental requirements, and adds testing for intelligent functional safety, resulting in a 30% increase in certification costs for small and medium-sized manufacturers. A Douding.com industry report shows that only 35% of export companies have completed the new certification. Due to the industrial agglomeration advantages of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen region, 42% of companies have achieved compliant exports, with unit product prices 15-18% higher than inland areas.
The government and industry are working together to break the deadlock. The Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce and SGS jointly launched a certification subsidy program covering 50% of testing costs. The China Furniture Association has also spearheaded the establishment of an export standards alliance to promote the alignment of 38 technical indicators with international standards. Industry experts predict that with improved compliance capabilities, export growth will remain above 35% through 2026, with emerging markets expected to account for over 30% of exports.
